Back on the water. After winning the Melges 20 World Championships in 2016, the Pinta crew takes on a new challenge in the one design J70 class. To kick off the campaign Michael Illbruck, John Kostecki, Patrick Wilson, and Chris Stocke competed in the 3rd Winter Series hosted by the Davis Island Yacht Club in Tampa, Florida. Long-time crew member of pinta, Ross Halcrow, coached the pinta crew before and during the regatta.
50 boats were competing in a total of seven races. Although it was the first time the pinta crew sailed on a J70 their experience showed off straight from the start. In the first three races pinta finished 12th, 11th, and 3rd respectively. After some difficulties and finishing 19th in race four the crew managed to stay focused and finish the last three races 6th, 8th, and 1st. Tied for points with Key Player at 41 each the pinta crew took home a fantastic 2nd place overall in its first appearance.
